Former diocesan titles/positions: When appointment to bishop was announced Aug. 1, 2003, he was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Monroe and judicial vicar (leader) of the diocesan marriage tribunal, which studies cases of marriage nullity when married couples petition for a marriage annulment in order to remarry in the Catholic Church.
Pastoral background: After ordination, in summer 1983 Bishop Jugis was in residence (temporary position) at St. Ann Catholic Church in Charlotte. He soon returned to Rome to complete his licentiate (similar to a master’s degree) in church canon law.
Summer 1984—Summer 1985: Bishop Jugis was appointed parochial vicar (assistant pastor) of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem.

Summer 1989—Summer 1991: Bishop Jugis returned to Catholic University of America to continue doctorate studies.
Summer 1991—Summer 1993: Bishop Jugis was appointed as parochial vicar of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem, N.C.
May 1993: Bishop Jugis received his doctorate in church canon law from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
